The menstrual cycle of a woman consists of three phases. These three phases are the remarkable identities of all women.
The follicular phase
Considered the first phase, it begins on the first day of menstruation until the moment of ovulation. Each follicle contains an egg cell. It lasts 14 days, the time it takes for the follicles to develop in the ovaries and mature. Once mature, it is likely to ovulate.
The ovulatory phase
This begins when the follicle expels the only egg that has matured. Once the egg is released, it has a maximum of 24 hours to live, waiting for the spermatozoon to fertilise it. For normal cycles such as 28 days, the date of ovulation is on the 14th day. A drop in temperature and the egg-white texture of the cervical mucus tell you about the ovulatory period.
The luteal phase
Also known as the post-ovulatory phase, this is after ovulation until the last day of the ovarian cycle. Once this phase is over, menstruation begins immediately, as the uterine lining has been removed, giving rise to menstruation. This phase between ovulation and menstruation can last 12 to 14 days. This happens when there is no fertilisation during the ovulatory period. At this point, a menstrual panty would be ideal to accommodate the next period. Once fertilisation has taken place, the egg implants in the uterus and becomes pregnant, which is called implantation.
Irregular cycle
An irregular cycle refers to a delay or early onset of menstruation. The woman's cycle varies from month to month and the reasons for this can be diverse. Factors that can lead to menstrual disorders include stress, fatigue, sleep disorders, anorexia, obesity, medication, etc.
It is important to understand that every woman is different, unique and it is this difference that makes life beautiful.
